What is involved in the

Music Therapy process?

Music Therapy uses music as a medium to accomplish nonmusical goals.  Goals are designed and personalized to meet the needs of the individual client or clients.  Some of the different interventions a music therapist may incorporate into a session include:

  • playing instruments

  • therapeutic singing

  • movement to music

  • music listening

  • lyric analysis

  • song writing/song parody

  • music and imagery

  • learning through music

What happens during a Music Therapy session?

Music Therapy sessions are usually conducted in 60 minute individual or group sessions.  While Music Therapy may be a covered service by some insurance companies and Medicaid Waiver programs, ultimately it is the client's responsibility to render payment to the provider.

What does MT-BC mean?

MT-BC = Music Therapist – Board Certified

Quinton Kase, MT-BC, is a board-certified music therapist.

In order to become a nationally board-certified music therapist (MT-BC), one must complete an approved music therapy program from an accredited university (over 70 in the US), successfully complete a supervised clinical internship and bachelor’s degree in music therapy (or its equivalent), and pass an objective examination that measures knowledge for safe, competent practice.  A nationally board-certified music therapist is able to practice clinical music therapy in any or all 50 states.

What is national certification?  It is a standardization of a defined body of knowledge on a national scope or across state borders which tells the consumers who is safe and competent to practice regardless of the states in which the therapists work.  CBMT (Certification Board for Music Therapists) programs meet or exceed the same standards to which licensing boards adhere in test development and administration.  CBMT assures that by employing a board-certified music therapist, one has employed a competent, qualified professional.

Quinton is also available to present on music therapy for you and your facility, organization, or group.  Usually lasting approximately one hour, Quinton will attempt to cater the presentation specifically to the audience he is presenting to.
